VOCALOID Description

What is VOCALOID?

Now, we'll finally be answering this question in detail.

VOCALOID is a synthetic voice program created by Crypton Future Media and developed by the Yamaha Company. How VOCALOID works is fairly simple, you only have to put in lyrics and a melody. The first VOCALOID version was released on 2004 and the second on 2007.

VOCALOID, in itself, has various different synthetic voices. All of these voices, though internet popularity, have gained ‘faces’ or more like characters to identify the voices. The most famous VOCALOIDS as of yet are known as 'the main five', consisting of Miku Hatsune, Kaito Shion, Rin & Len Kagamine and Meiko.

Also, VOCALOID has become so popular, that people even create their own characters of these. Also, there are others called UTAULOIDS, which are ‘voices’ from another program called UTAU, which, unlike VOCALOID, has no voice bank, therefore, you can create your own ‘VOCALIOID’ of sorts. Those ‘voices’ that are not official from the VOCALOID program and where created with the UTAU are known as UTAULOIDS. These -LOIDS aren't official at all and, though their use is fairly popular, the characters in themselves have not gained popularity as much as VOCALOIDS. The most famous UTATULOID as of yet is Teto Kasane.

There are also VOYAKILOIDS, 'VOCALOIDS' that have been purposely made to seem as failures as a representation from errors in the original VOCALOID program's singing. The most famous VOYAKILOID as of yet is Haku Yowane.

Equally, there is another type of 'VOCALOIDS' out there, called BOUKALOIDS. The term BOUKALOID is, in itself, a Japanese play on words that means "Fire-proof Loid". These new -LOIDS where created thanks to a TV program in Japan degredating those who used the synthetic voice program of Miku Hatsune. This caused a huge uproar and for a certain point, Miku pictures had actually been banned from popular search engines. This news of Miku having had been banned flared up all around the internet and that, in turn, caused for others to ask for the 'fire to be put down' or to 'cease fire'. Through the play of words, BOUKALOIDS where born. There is only one known BOUKALOID as of now, and that is Neru Akita.
